Care Tips

How to Care for Your Jewelry

  1. Clean your jewelry regularly. Your own sweat and body oils can dull the shine of your jewelry. You can use a polishing cloth and rub gently on your jewelry. Polishing Cloths we recommend: https://www.sunshinepolishingcloth.com/store_blue.html
  2. Store jewelry in a clean dry place. Keep your pieces in a fabric lined jewelry case, or in a box with compartments and dividers to prevent pieces from scratching each other. When Stainless Steel and Sterling Silver is exposed to air, the moisture and sulfur can cause tarnishing. It is important to store jewelry properly.

Note: If your DALMATA jewelry does come in contact with water, or chemicals, we are not liable to replace the piece.

Some Dalmata pieces can be in contact with water as stated in the item description. Please read item descriptions first before getting your jewelry wet.

Sterling silver is made up of 92.5 percent silver and 7.5 percent of other metals. Some of those other metals can cause jewelry to tarnish over time when they interact with moisture that's in the air. Fortunately, there are a variety of things you can do to limit the amount of tarnishing that will take place when you wear jewelry.

CLEAN IT AT THE FIRST SIGN OF TARNISH

At some point in time, you're probably going to see a small amount of tarnish form on your jewelry. Don't be alarmed!

If wiping your jewelry down with a cloth doesn't remove it, there are a few steps you can take to get your jewelry clean again. Follow these steps to make your jewelry sparkle:

  1. Fill up a cup with warm water and a couple drops of a mild dishwashing soap
  2. Place your jewelry into the cup and gently hand wash your jewelry to remove tarnish
  3. Utilize a cotton swab to get deep into tight corners and clean them out
  4. Use a baby toothbrush to clean away any tarnish that you can't remove by hand
  5. Remove your jewelry from the cup, wipe it down, and then allow it to air dry before you place it back into storage for safekeeping

As long as you follow these steps and don't allow any moisture to build upon your jewelry before you store it, you should be able to safely remove all of the tarnish from it.

When to Remove Your Jewelry

    1. Before Swimming, Bathing, and Strenuous Activities. Salt, water, and chlorine can damage your jewelry. It can discolor metals and slowly erode the finish and polish. Add sweat to the list when it comes to Sterling Silver.
    2. Before applying Sunscreen, Perfume, Cologne, Soap and Lotions. Lotion can get into the crevices of chains and prongs. Lotions create a film on your jewelry making it dull and dingy. Chemicals can leave jewelry discolored.
    3. In direct sunlight. The sun can bleach certain materials.
